I was just minding my own business when my girlfriend called me and asked if I could come over to a garage sale she was at to see if we should buy this sofa and chair. I go over, and just inside the front door I see this 1956-57 Telefunken Opus 7 tube radio in immaculate condition screaming buy me, buy me! I couldn't resist. It's a beautiful wooden box about 2'x1.5'x1' with AM FM & SW with 8 tubes & 6 speakers in the box, everything works, and it sounds incredible. Treble & bass controls, 5 push button switches for playback modes (jazz, orchestra, solo, etc.) it even has inputs for phono & tape and a way to rotate the antenna. What an incredible thing - I feel like a little kid! For the first time in I can't even remember how long, I listened to the radio for hours yesterday... felt like sharing a really great sounding time warp with you all!

Don't leave us hanging, make us feel worse!! How much did you pay for this treasure??

I found out yesterday that brand new in 1957 they cost $300 US, around 515 DM, and that it was very high end and advanced for its time and actually even today. I paid $300 for it. I later found a couple online that had sold for $425, but this one is really clean.

It's so interesting listening to different styles of music through it - the classical and jazz are very sweet with great bass and high mids. A lot of the modern rock sounds like the mixes are slammed and a bit distorted (guess 'cuz they are) while the classic rock sounds incredible, and this thing can crank! What a great listening experience that is creating a new reference of sorts for me. I'll see if I can upload some photos.

What a beautiful piece! Are all the tubes Telefunken (I'd love them Tele EL84s for me VOX)?

haven't opened up the back yet, assume they are all TFunk tubes...
