Apple Inc.'s quarterly profit surged 90%, leaving little doubt that consumers are opening their wallets to buy the hottest tech gadgets as the economy improves.

Apple's revenue in the quarter rose 49% to $13.5 billion, as consumers snatched up its iPhones, iPods and Macintosh computers.

Apple said the results were driven by more than twice as many iPhone shipments compared with a year ago. Revenue from the phones made up 40% of Apple's total business.

"We're thrilled to report our best non-holiday quarter revenue ever," Chief Executive Steve Jobs said.

There you guys go again, praising Apple for ripping off their users with insane profit margins... like this somehow signifies how AWESOME they are.

All it actually signifies is that they have an entire generation of drooling idiots at their beck and call that will automatically purchase anything they produce - whether they need it or not - or they won't be perceived as being hip enough to their drooling idiot buddies.

But everybody already knew that.

Come on, Hopi, you know Mark is right: the only reason Apple sells their miserable crap in such quantities is that consumers all over the world are stupid. People don't bother researching multi-thousand dollar purchases - they just want to be hip.
